Steven opened the Wine Cellar Club in May 1992 to meet the need for upscale wine storage in Orange County.
In those days wine storage was a bare bones - no frills - basic service. All that changed with the opening of the Wine Cellar Club more than 31 years ago. Innovative and creative - the Wine Cellar Club broke all the old rules.
The business model was simple in concept - build the facility where Steven would want to store his own wine. As the Wine Cellar Club grew and matured over the years into the largest wine storage facility in So Cal, the business model has never changed.
Steven is passionate about wine - particularly French wine. His preference for Old World wines dates back to the early 70's when there wasn't as much high-end New World wine to choose from and, worth noting, Bordeaux from a top chateau cost less than $25 a bottle!
He read everything he could - in those days Harry Waugh was the man. Waugh's protégé, Michael Broadbent, was just being noticed. Steven attended many wine tastings with Rod Rodewig of Gourmet Wine in Marina Del Rey (now gone). Les Amis du Vin (now gone), Dennis Overstreet at the Wine Merchant in Beverly Hills, and many other tasting groups. In those days, long before Robert Parker emerged as the most famous wine authority, one had to work much harder to learn about wine - we had to drink it.
Steven began collecting wine in 1968 but it was the mid 70's, when prices for Bordeaux tanked, that he built his cellar with the most fantastic 1st Growth Bordeaux anyone could imagine. With his closest friend they were the first to import Salon le Mesnil, a very high-end Champagne, into California. Steven has often said "I had no idea what we'd do with this stuff". When he bought a pallet of '75 Petrus, some '75 Latour, and a bunch of '75 La Mission Haut Brion, he knew he was hooked - forever.
An accountant by training, a wine lover by desire - he managed to merge his passion for wine, classical music, art, and collecting, into the Wine Cellar Club. This isn't just a job or an investment - it's a lifestyle!
His favorite travel destinations are the vineyards of France, Italy, Spain, and California where he loves to walk through the vineyards surrounded by vines, talk to the winemakers, and hang out in the local bistros. If he finds the time, his favorite outdoor sport is skiing. His one - and only - spectator sport is hockey. Go Ducks!!
Steven's vision of the Wine Cellar Club - a deluxe private club - is a natural extension of his love of wine, classical music, and art. He accomplished his goal of building the Wine Cellar Club into the premier wine storage facility in Southern California - the leader in it's field, the largest, and only premier wine storage facility in Orange County.
Felicia joined the Wine Cellar Club in 1998 with the mission of providing superb customer service at a time when most wine storage facilities had NO customer service personnel on site.
The Wine Cellar Club has grown dramatically during the last 30 years and, with each passing year, the we have upped the ante on customer service.
Felicia's responsibilities have grown to encompass our ever changing menu of concierge services and private club amenities.
Felicia's friendly smile, enthusiasm, extremely high energy and earnest desire to assist Wine Cellar Club members is first class. If you are a member of the Wine Cellar Club you know how helpful she is. If you are not a member you will be one - once you meet her.
Wine appreciation has many definitions.
For me it means traveling to the most famous vineyards both in Europe and California, sampling wine where it is produced, and enjoyed with the foods of the region.
We love hiking in the vineyard. Beautiful ripe fruit nearly ready for harvest. Temperatures over 100F in Yountville.
Early harvest due to excessive heat wave. These will be picked next week.
Trefethen - Fruit ready for harvest
What a beautiful spot for a wine tasting! Literally in the vineyard.
Calistoga temps were very high August 2022, but fruit looks good.
No reds produced in 2020 due to smoke damage from fires nearby.
Yountville is home to at least 6 fabulous restaurants, many owned by Thomas Keller - of French Laundry fame. Bistro Jeanty has been enormously popular for more than 20 yrs. and it is not a Keller brand.
Bistro Jeanty has been serving great meals for more than 20 years. Their Coq au Vin is out of this world.
